Gifted Awareness Week

The first week in April in Texas is GT Awareness Week. As this week is coming to an end, I am aware that many people recognize the academic and creative needs of the gifted, but the emotional needs of the gifted are not. Some of the challenges that face gifted individuals are intensities, perfectionism, underachievement, and imposter syndrome.

While not every gifted child and gifted adult (people do not stop being gifted when they graduate high school) have all of these challenges, there are many who have at least some of these challenges at some time in their lives. Not knowing this can make a frustrating, discouraging time that much more. What would it be like if these were allowed to be addressed when working with your counselor? What would it be like to know, that as a gifted individual, you are not alone?

One of the purposes of Makana Soul Counseling was to provide gifted individuals a place where they could grow while acknowledging their gifted identity. This is a place where saying I am gifted is accepted and met with what are your strengths in this area and what are your challenges. It is a place where people know that they are not alone, that they can be met with who they are where they are, and it is okay.
