Remembering Your Blessings

Throughout the Bible we can read about ways that people remembered what God had done for them or to remember what He had revcealed. Many times this was done through stones such as building a monument of stones. When the person or group of people would go back, they would remember what He had done for them in the past. In times of discouragement that visual reminder could help encourage them that He had never left them.

When struggling in life through depression or a horrific event in our lives we can sometimes feel that they will never end, that we are alone. Just like God asked them to build a visual reminder we also need visual reminders. In times of crisis or discouragement it can be hard to remember the blessings and good times from the past. So it is imprtant to find a way to document them.

To help with this there are several things that you can do:

  1. If you love to write make a list of all your blessings that you can remember. Small or big write them ALL down. As you expereince more blessings and encouragement add them to the list.

  2. To add to point #1, paint a small stone or pebble different colors and put them in a jar. That jar will show each blessing that you have received. What a visual reminder of the blessings in your life.

  3. If you love to draw make a collage of pictures that represent times of blessings.

  4. If you cannot remember any blessings at this time start with keeping a gratitude journal of 3-5 things that you are grateful for that day.

  5. Remember the small victories such as you took a shower or you left the house and write those down. When feeling defeated it is hard to remember the victories of what you have already conquered.
